Mmmm..... forbidden donut

I was out drinking with a coworker and somehow we got onto the topic of allergies. She was allergic to shellfish, and as anyone who knows me is aware, I am allergic to peanuts. Some of my friends share some off these allergies, as well as allergies to gluten, tree nuts, egg protein, diary, etc. It got me thinking.....

When I lived in Japan, I had the opportunity to try fugu, the blowfish that can kill you if prepared improperly. See the Simpsons for details. Anyway, on the multiple times that I have had the opportunity to try it, I've been underwhelmed each time. It really didn't strike me as something to risk (even remotely given breeding and quality control) my life over. Obviously the appeal is in the danger. It got me wondering- do allergy sufferers share thre same fetishization with the foods that they are allergic to?
My reaction to peanuts & legumes is so mild I barely qualify to answer this question. But my lactose intolerant ex loved cheese, and I love me some thai food. To someone allergic to shellfish, would lobster oysters, clams, mussels or even escargot be an ethereally dangerous delight or a risky let down? Luckily, I don't know anyone brave/stupid enough to tempt fate and try it out. It still makes me wonder though.
